If you're ever in the Thunder Bay area, Fort William Historical Park is a great place to spend a day.

The park is a recreation of the original fort that was built by the North West Company in 1816. It's a great place to learn about the history of the fur trade and explore more. Here's a rundown of what you can expect to see and do at the park.

As you enter the park, you'll be met by costumed interpreters who are more than happy to answer any questions you have about the fort or the fur trade. We would highly recommend taking one of the guided tours, as they're very informative and provide a great overview of what life was like at the fort. You'll also get to see inside some of the historic buildings, including the storehouse, blacksmith shop, and chief factor's house.

Afterwards, take some time to explore on your own and visit some of the other attractions in the park. The kids will love feeding the ducks in Kingsmill's Creek, while adults will enjoy checking out the historic artefacts on display in the Visitor Centre. Make sure to stop by Scott's Inn before you leave—it's been authentically restored and is now open to visitors as a museum.

The park has over 20 kilometers of trails that wind through forests, wetlands, and meadows. In winter, these trails are perfect for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. In summer, they're ideal for hiking or biking—and they offer stunning views of Lake Superior along the way.

Fort William Historical Park also hosts special events throughout the year such as an Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween "Forts & Spirits" tours, and a traditional Métis Fiddle & Step Dance Jamboree (held every August). Check the park's website for a full list of upcoming events before you visit so you don't miss anything!

Fort William Historical Park is a great place to spend a day if you're ever in Thunder Bay. The park is very well-maintained and offers a variety of activities for both adults and children. We would definitely recommend taking one of the guided tours, as they provide an excellent overview of what life was like at the fort.
